Pete Stark says on the floor of the House that Republicans are complaining about where to find the money for child health care yet they don't seem to care where the money for the war is coming from. Then he says to the Republicans across the aisle:
You don't have money to fund the war or children, but you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement. [View vid in body for source.]
So, Pete Stark has the guts to tell the truth about Bush and the Republicans spending money about the war but not for child health care and the Bushies cry foul. Well, that's to be expected. But why should Democrats like Nancy Pelosi be apologetic that a fellow Democrat actually had the courage to say it?
As long as the Democrats like Nancy and Harry (and Hillary, and Joe, and John) control the party like this, the Democrats will never get anywhere. When Pelosi "rebuked" Pete Stark, Cenk Uygar of the Young Turks said, "I don't know if you know this, Nancy Pelosi is actually the head of the Democrats not the Republicans, but she loves to rebuke her own Democrats."
I wonder how Hillary and the other candidates will respond?
Here's an outline of Cenk Uygar's Seven Steps of Media Domination and Opponant Destruction the Republicans use to get Democratic capitulation Democrats to turn on and take down their own people using the Republican's own arguments. He first posted it on Huffington Post two years ago and the Democrats are still doing it.
- Pick out strongest person on other side and target for destruction by attempts to discredit him and get own party to disown him.
- Comb though all his statements (or take a recent one) for a statement out of context to use as a distraction by beating it to death as extreme.
- Repeat step 2 800 times until three things happen: (1) every time the target is mentioned people will only think about the charges you have repeated ad nauseum, (2) the conversation is no longer on the issue but on what your target said, and (3) the target is painted as an extremist becasue the charge has been repeated enough time.
- Co-opt main stream media to do your dirty work by repeating the comment so that the media takes up the comment as the issue instead of the issue (Kerry swift boating, Dean's comment about pickup trucks in the South, Durbin's gulag comment, Stark's comment.)
- Get the target's own party or allies to turn on him.
- Get opponants to take down own people for fear of having to answer distracting questions from media and agreeing to make the target into a distraction.
- Laugh and pat yourself on the back for killing two birds with one stone
So simple, just repeated 100s of times and Democrats fall for it every time.
Here's Cenk Uygar's recent blog at the YoungTurks.com on Pelosi's apology:
Stop Apologizing!!!!
Nancy Pelosi did it again. One more apology on a stack of endless apologies from Democrats. Please stop being so damn weak. It's embarrassing to look at.
This time it was a rebuke of Pete Stark (D-CA) for saying the president is getting kids killed for his own amusement in Iraq. Amusement, ego, whatever. The kids are dying and it is all because of the president's vainglory. Pete Stark shouldn't be apologizing for that, Nancy Pelosi shouldn't be apologizing on his behalf or rebuking him, it should be the president who is apologizing!
Read this. It is the first article I ever wrote on Huffington Post. It's called the "Seven Step Plan for Media Domination and Opponent Destruction" and it's just as true today as it was over two years ago. The Republicans have done this countless more times since I originally wrote this article. The Democrats are apparently never going to catch on to this shell game.
But I'm long past waiting for the Democratic leaders to do the right thing or realize how badly they're being outplayed at every turn. It's time to start rooting for a new generation of Democratic leaders like Pete Stark and Chris Dodd. If they're ready to do the fighting, I'm ready to stand behind them.
