Congressional Districts We Don't Care About

Tue Oct 23, 2007 at 11:14:37 AM PDT

While processing a dump of historical dKos tags, I got to wondering if we have a diary covering every Senate and House office. To answer that I checked to see how many etags ("CA-12", "MA-Sen", etc) we have diaries for  and how many etags are missing. I threw Governors in the mix ("TX-Gov", e.g.) and found that of the 534 Governor, Senate, and House etags, we're missing diaries for only 16 of them. That's pretty good coverage, I'd say, greater than 97 percent of the races.

Here's the list of the missing, with links to their dKosopedia entries:

CA-18 CA-23 CA-32 CA-34 CA-38 CA-39
NJ-06 NJ-10
NY-02 NY-05 NY-16 NY-18 NY-28
TX-09 TX-18
IN-Sen

Yes, a Senate office with no diaries. Don't they have Senate elections in Indiana? Are there no Hoosiers out there with something to say about Lugar and Bayh?

As an aside, either y'all are very good at using the "At Large" etag (AK-AL, e.g.) for those seven states with one CD, or someone is going around changing etags of the form AK-01 to the correct form AK-AL.

I'm in NY and have absolutely no clue about any of those NY districts (other than that a couple of them I think are pretty heavily Republican)...

and Bayh isn't up for reelection until 2010.

So I guess thats as good a reason as any why we have no IN-Sen diaries.

Steve hasn't won a race with less then a 7% margin in a decade its a lock in and will continue to be. He's fairly progressive and fits the district well.

so heavily blue that barring a dead girl or a live boy in his bed its another district we don't have to concentrate on.

  •  Lugar and Bayh (0+ / 0-)

are center-right and center-left, respectively, with (especially on Bayh's part) an emphasis on center. Neither one sparks the paroxysms of support or opposition that so many others do.

Actually, Bayh has his rightist streak, and precious little "left" in him.

    •  My take on Lugar and Bayh: (0+ / 0-)

Lugar is a solid centrist Republican, as others have mentioned.  He is, however, someone who actually THINKS, and he is not a raving lunatic or (so far as I know) a pervert of some kind.  You could do worse (and too many states DO have much worse senators).

Bayh is a DINO.  Nice enough fellow.  Did not listen when Move-On went to his office before the war to oppose it.  I took my two soon-to-be-military-age sons with me to that protest.  Nice enough fellow is NOT ENOUGH.  If he is a Democrat, he should act like one.

16 is Jose Serrano it's the bronx he won 96% of the vote in 06, this is not a place we should focus. also Slaughter's district is the progressive upstate enclave of Rochester and a gerrymandered strip right along the canadian border, Niagara falls etc. NY-28 and NY-18 is the white plains section of westchester (read as poorer blacker) also a D stronghold the reason these NY districts haven't been posted is because Ny dems have better places to spend their energy as well as the Districts I talked about above.

  •  California Districts (2+ / 0-)

The California districts that you listed are D locks. Below are the percentages in the '06 election for each of them:

    District #D-Candidate (%)R-Candidate (%)
    18Cardoza (65.5)Kanno (34.5)
    23Capps (65.2)Tognazzini (34.8)
    32Solis (83)Faegre (17)
    34Roybal-Allard (76.8)Miller (23.2)
    38Napolitano (75.4)Street (24.6)
    39Sanchez (65.9)Andion (34.1)

So, I can't say I'm particularly surprised by the lack of diaries about them.

(Technical aside: it's annoying that you can put style information in <td> tags in the preview but when you post you get an error. That would have saved me some typing...will have to find the proper place to complain)
