I had some quiet time to think this morning on my way back from the hardware store and I saw a vision of a National Industrial Accident Memorial. I'm not sure if one exists, I believe there is one in Japan but wasn't able to find one here in the US. An artist has done a show called "Industrial Accident Memorial" but to my knowledge it was not permanent.
The memorial could be made up of industrial machines and tools, scaffolding, ladders etc. all chromed and etched with the faces of those lost. The arrangment would be unique, thoughtful, introspective and reflect the desire to end these unnecessary deaths. The memorial could be placed in an open field and would contain levels, gates and open areas meant for reflection.
One simple idea like this could be a catalyst for a national movement towards better worker safety and more corporate oversight.
I'd be interested in hearing initial reactions to the concept and I could put together a better package or proposal then launch an awareness campaign.
Thank you for reading this.
