The California wildfires are still burning out of control, but some progress is being made.

If you have animals or livestock that you cannot evacuate yourself or that need to be rescued, call [phone] and press 1 for emergency services.

If you have a stable or other areas that are safe and can house a number of large animals and livestock that need to be evacuated, please call the San Diego Humane Society at [phone]. SDHS is also in need of portable livestock panels for temporary corrals. If you have these available for use, please call [phone].

Mayor Sanders is asking for licensed doctors and nurses to relieve current medical staff at Qualcomm Stadium. Licensed personnel willing to volunteer for an 8-10 hour shift are asked to report to Gate "A" at Qualcomm Stadium.

They are also asking for Certified teachers

Try text messaging rather than cellphone calls, since texting uses far less network resources. Text messages might go through when cell calls won't. However, to reach 911, you have to make a phone call - it's my understanding that texting to 911 won't work until the next generation of network infrastructure/software is developed/released.

Text messages can be pricey depending on the plan you have with your cellphone service provider, but should be used during emergencies to limit stress on resources.

            Please consider, those posting asides, that we are trying to keep lines of communication open for those in SD involved in the fires, and to help inform those of us who have family and friends in the area.

            This is not a thread or series of diaries for speculation about cause and effect.

            Earlier today I heard from a guy I dated in HS, and his home burned to the ground. He and his wife are being very stoic, but they have lost almost everything. When I linked him to this thread, he found the information very helpful.

            That is why we are keeping this going, and we want to limit it to relevant posts.

•  KTLA's reporter Jamie Chambers

  was at lake Hodges.  They were so short of firefighters the chief gave him a jacket thrust the hose in his hands and put him to work. His camera man filmed it.  For a few seconds he held his microphone and the hose - those things are much more powerful that the uninitiated expect.  Jamie explains how he was assigned to save the lodge and his eyes bugged out of his head as he saw the fire at his feet near a fence and immediately put his hose to work. That was good to see on TV this morning.

  that have been damaged?

  I know some exist, but I'm not sure where and I don't want to overwhelm the the web looking for them.

  I saw that one community was going street by street listing house numbers and the damage sustained, but I don't know if this is a county wide effort.

  Specifically, I'm looking for Poway in San Diego County.

•  KTLA: Metrolink & Amtrak service stops

  going south at San Juan Capistrano.  Right now you cannot take the train for commuters going down to San Diego or coming north to Los Angeles.  The fire at Camp Pendleton has created a traffic nightmare and there is a massive bottleneck in the San Clemente area.  I 5 is closed too.

  (South Bay Daily Breeze) If you add the number of structures already identified as destroyed or damaged in Southern California, you are currently at just shy of 2300 structures.

  That number includes homes, outbuildings, and businesses.

  The good news, most of the Santa Clarita-area blazes are nearing full containment. Huge progress made on all three throughout Tuesday.

  Weather here in the South Bay: cooler than yesterday (57 degrees), but humidity is still comparably low (38%). Yesterday it was 60 degrees, but 41% humidity at this time. It dropped to below 10% by lunch.

  Hoping for good luck today. Little wind here, if any. But that is not unusual. We are kinda wind-protected here.
