Rendition is the movie about CIA kidnapping of an innocent man because his cell phone is accidentally rung by a cell phone that might be one used by a terrorist. It hasn't been very succesful at the box office even though it is a wonderful movie with great acting, truth in how Washingon works, and wonderful cinemaphotography. A review here on Daily Kos panned it for not having a "satisfying" ending.
The recent congressional hearing on illegal renditions of a Canadian citizen and others show that they have had about the same unsatisfying ending. The most unbelievable part of the movie is that The Washington Post is portrayed as actually breaking the real story of CIA rendition and approved torture.
Now in the latest of released documents we find absolute proof that Bush knowingly approved harsh interrogation techniques (known in the rest of the world as torture) and that Rumsfeld actually observed at least one harsh session.
I am sure he had none of the moral qualms that the Jake Gyllenhaal character had.
Driving back from the movie I saw a young deer (a slender two point buck) standing near the edge of a busy highway. I slowed down and honked a bunch without immediate success in getting him to flee. That deer is too much like most of the war's victims, not understanding why his body will be hit, hurt, mangled, and killed by an impersonal lethal force. And one reason the movie is not going to do well is that most Americans do not want to know what is being done in their name anymore than I want to know what happened to the deer after I had to drive on by.
I do wish somebody would ask Bush if the torture scenes in Rendition accurately protray the harsh interrogation he approved.
