It appears that Barack Obama still continues to throw LGBT voters under the bus by his continued support of Donnie McClurkin, a rabidly "ex-gay" gospel singer at a South Carolina concert.
I was considering supporting Obama, but now he has lost my vote. Any candidate who allows others with hateful Christian wingnut views to support them, makes them complicit in hate.
Because there have been many anti-McClurkin diaries posted here, I will not repeat any of the previous eloquent arguments as to why this controversy disqualifies Obama from getting the Democratic nomination.
That being said, the McClurkin controversy brings to light a fundamental problem with Barack Obama's political beliefs concerning the Iraq War and the War on Terror in general. Please read on.
Barack Obama prides himself as a true anti-war candidate who has opposed the Iraq war since 2002 while Hillary Clinton voted for it. Barack even attacks Hillary over her support of the Kyl-Lieberman bill.
Strange as it may sound, there are even racist right-wing assholes who also oppose the Iraq War. Ron Paul comes to mind. Ron Paul also opposes gay rights, and he is a vile, hateful bigot as well. http://www.dailykos.com/...
Many anti-semites and racists oppose the war in Iraq because they are anti-Israel, and they also sympathize with the Islamic world's intolerance towards LGBT rights. In this context, Barack's opposition to the Iraq War and his support for Donnie McClurkin makes sense.
Hillary, on the other hand, does not have hateful anti-gay bigots like Donnie McClurkin around her campaign to pander to the Christian wingnut base in South Carolina. While, her hawkish stance on the war may be perplexing to progressives, at least it is a war that is about bringing freedom and tolerance to the Middle East.
Just because Osama Bin Laden, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Donnie McClurkin oppose the RethugliKKKlan administration, does not mean that we should support these theocrats either.
