BlueNC's Anglico diaried this issue yesterday, and I applaud him. Well done Anglico!
I just sent our County Chair the following email:
Dear Jim,
It is with regret that I must tell you I am resigning as Precinct Chair for Harnett 9 here in New Hanover County effective immediately.
You are doing a superb job as County Chair and I wish you continued success.
My reason for resigning is the action taken by the State party urging Kay Hagan to run against Jim Neal for Elizabeth Dole's Senate seat. I, as a Progressive, find it unconscionable that the State Democratic Party would make such a move... more politics as usual rather than true progress.
I will be focusing all of my efforts on behalf of John Edwards, Larry Kissell, Marshall Adame and Jim Neal, all progressive candidates.
No more "politics as usual" for me.
Best wishes and thanks for all you do,
There has been much discussion here over the past few weeks about gays being thrown under the bus for political "gain", and here in North Carolina it has happened again. The powers that be have decided a well qualified candidate, Jim Neal, cannot be elected to the US Senate because he is gay.
Well folks, I think you are not only wrong, I think you're immoral. And I'm sick to freaking death of tolerating the "politics as usual" meme you offer.
I am voting with my feet and my pocketbook. No more work will I do for a party that calls itself the "big tent" party and then turns around and closes the tent flap in a good man's face. No more money will I give to that party either.
Good luck with Kay Hagan, the woman who didn't want to run, but let you talk her into it. That's a great start for her candidacy, isn't it?
Jim Neal has my vote and my donation.
