It's a Drudge Match!
It is so close to happening! As the election season heats up, Daily Kos has been showing some spunk in the traffic department, while Drudge has been on his steady, inexorable decline:
And you can help defeat the Drudge Report for good.
ACTION: PARTICIPATE
Much like the Nielsen system for television, Alexa gets its data directly from media consumers. But instead of the Nielsen box, anyone can download the Alexa toolbar.
The best part of using the toolbar is that you get counted. And if it's downloaded en masse, you get counted big. As an example, about a year ago on social news site Digg.com, a user submitted an item showing that Digg had come close to competing site Slashdot.org on Alexa. Everyone recommended the item. Two days later, Alexa showed that both Digg and its competitor had shot up in traffic, but it showed Digg was now clearly leading. Everyone was puzzled, but all that had happened was that a lot of Digg users decided to download the toolbar, and they got counted. (And some also visited their competitor.)
If the same thing happened on Daily Kos, not only would Daily Kos climb the charts, but so would our "competitors" -- every other progressive website we visit -- in a big blue rising tide lifting up every great little local blog, every underrated national blog, and every other website fighting against the right wing. And regardless of its flaws, advertisers do check Alexa.
So if you want to get counted, download the toolbar. And if you want to get counted big, rec this and have everybody download the toolbar!
