(Read my recent postings for the backstory here)
Yes, just 3 days to go before I promise to quit obsessing over our little ongoing saga here in Berkley, Michigan.
As a break from the monotony of me droning on about the latest minutiae as we approach the finish line (election day, Tuesday, Nov. 6), I have a special treat (such as it is) for you. Who doesn't like video clips?
What's that you say? It's from FOX News? OK, yeah, but believe it or not, after all of our concerns about them doing a hit job on the Vote NO group, the end product is...surprisingly non-negative.
I'm not gonna go so far as to say that it's a positive piece--they do spend a disproportionate amount of time focusing on the ACLU's past involvement in the issue (the organization actually has virtually nothing to do with the current situation), but overall...well, I'll let you judge for yourselves.
Listen, in particular, for the title quote from this diary (about halfway through). It's especially telling:
Next up is an audio clip (it's posted on YouTube but is audio-only) from a radio interview done by Vote NO spokesperson, Berkley City Councilmember Phil O'Dwyer a week or so ago (I didn't catch it but someone else thankfully uploaded the interview to YouTube and sent me the link). As this interview was done by a Christian radio station, the interviewer was trying very hard to come out on the "Yes" side as a way of "defeating" the ACLU, but finally had to admit that ultimately, that organization pretty much wins either way (whereas the city of Berkley risks losing plenty if the "Yes" vote wins out). He also threw in a few digs at the general concept of Separation of Church and State, but overall he was actually pretty--well, I won't say balanced, but reasonably fair.
Again, judge for yourselves:
