While I remain optimistic about politics in general, there's a part of me that feels that we are headed towards something that most Americans have never faced in their lives.
Never before, have we been on the verge of fascism. Never before, have we seen our civil liberties violated as they are today.
If you haven't woken up from your slumber, it's about time to do so. If we are ever to re-claim this country from the clutches of fascism, now is the time to do so.
Edit- Disregard this diary please.
Before you start to dismiss this diary as redundant, I urge you to think. I don't care if you are 15 or 55. When in the history of this country can you recall such gross violations of our civil liberties? When in the history of this country can you recall such unprecedented power that the President wields?
Like anyone else here on DKos, I often wonder when the other shoe is going to drop. Is Bush (more likely Cheney) going to take complete control of this nation anytime soon? Will they take pointers from what is currently happening in Pakistan or even Myanmar? Do they actually think we are gullible enough to fall for this ruse?
While I believe it's still possible for the Democratic party to rise above and push us into an era of progressive politics, there's always a part of me that remains skeptical of such a thing. Can we really trust Democrats that are beholden to their masters (corporations)? Can we trust establishment Democrats that have spent years sticking by the bare minimum just to keep their power?
Can we trust anyone in this country anymore? We must be prepared for anything. We must keep an eye on what our government does. It is the duty of each and every American to stand up to tyranny, especially when it comes from within.
Revolution is always at the back of the mind. Revolution is what beckons to us when another politician sells out. No one likes violence and no one likes to fight. We must keep this in mind whenever a tyrant attempts to rise to power. We must always consider the undesirable, shall a tyrant get out of control.
The American people have been played for far too long. We have been bound and suffocated by a political process beholden to the interests of tyrannical corporations and a President with far too much power than he deserves.
While I hold the same hope as many Kossacks, that we can get a Democratic president in the White House in 2008, I still have my doubts. You should too.
I leave you these lyrics as a symbol of our current government. Jello Biafra is someone I look up to in relevance.
"We've Got A Bigger Problem Now" (edited to reflect the current situation)
Last call for alcohol.
Last call for your freedom of speech.
Drink up. Happy hour is now enforced by law.
Don't forget our house special, it's called a Trickie Dickie Screwdriver.
It's got one part Jack Daniels, two parts purple Kool-Aid,
and a jigger of formaldehyde
from the jar with Hitler's brain in it we got in the back storeroom.
Happy trails to you. Happy trails to you.
I am Emperor George W. Bush
Born again with fascist cravings
Still, you made me president
Human rights will soon go 'way
I am now your Shah today
Now I command all of you
Now you're going to pray in school
I'll make sure they're Christian too
America Uber alles
Uber alles America
Blackwater will control you
Still you think it's natural
N***** knockin' for the master race
Still you wear the happy face
You closed your eyes, can't happen here
Alexander Haig is near
Vietnam won't come back you say
Join the army or you will pay
America Uber alles
Uber alles America
Yeah, that's it. Just relax.
Have another drink, few more pretzels, little more MSG.
Turn on those Dallas Cowboys on your TV.
Lock your doors. Close your mind.
It's time for the two-minute warning.
Welcome to 1984
Are you ready for the third world war?!?
You too will meet the secret police
They'll draft you and they'll jail your niece
You'll go quitely to boot camp
They'll shoot you dead, make you a man
Don't you worry, it's for a cause
Feeding global corporations' claws
Die on our brand new poison gas
Iraq or Afghanistan
Making money for President Bush
And all the friends of President Bush
America Uber alles
Uber alles America
And if you disagree with me, that's fine and dandy. I love this place and I thank Markos for giving me a forum that restores my faith in the Democratic process every single day.
