This has been discussed a lot today, which surprises me because I didn't see anything noteworthy when I read the Des Moines story this morning. But when I got back online around 2:30pm, the story had blown up into this huge embarrassing event where John Edwards was booed and heckled off the stage. At least that's the way I hear that the BIG MONEY NEWS MEDIA's "Today Show" covered the story, anyway. I didn't see the television report, so it could have been another show other than the "Today Show," but I'm responding to the story itself, not the television show that ran it.
Here's what the Des Moines Register said about the event, that I haven't seen anywhere else:
Greeted on stage with both surprised cheers and audible boos from the beer-swilling near-sellout crowd, Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards made a cameo appearance at John Mellencamp's concert Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
So, you had some hecklers who had been drinking in the audience, who either got rowdy or started booing and some other people decided to join in?
That's not the way ONLINE IDIOTS and Big Money Media Provocateurs have been discussing Edwards' appearance. They say he was booed off the stage, and then relegated to the dark end of the stage before he embarrassingly exited, which is a "metaphor" of his campaign.
If anyone brings this up to you, tell them that the audience had been drinking. I guess the audience drinking and the fact that people were also cheering is not important enough for some smear merchants to mention.
