But with all the turmoil in Pakistan right now, a place I have some high degree of affinity to, I feel obliged to make this post about Pakistan.
Pakistan is a beautiful country, with mountainous regions with such scenic beauty that is virtually unrivaled in the world today.
If we were to believe what we saw on Wolf Blitzer or other show, we would think it is simply a haven for terrorism.
Yet, that is far from the complete picture of Pakistan.
Pakistanis a re moderate people on the whole.
The country is founded as an Islamic state, but not as an extremist state.
Its founder , Muhammad Ali Jinnah was anything but an extremist.
Yet, Pakistan has had a resurgence of extremism within its borders in the past years. This is most likely due to the presence of talibani type forces within the mountainous areas of pakistan. hese are people who were virtually created by the afghan russia war during the 1980's. They are armed militants that were backed for many years by the U.S. government in order to batttle the Soviet presence in Afghanistan.
After the war was over, they were deserted by U.S> policy makers, and now they are on a mission against their former backers.
But, they are not representative of Pakistan.
That is a small introduction.
In subsequent posts we can talk about the current situation in Pakistan under the current military regime.
