In Defense of Hillary Clinton Planting Questions

Sun Nov 11, 2007 at 01:37:23 AM PDT

It was okay for Hillary to plant that college student to ask her a question about global warming. And, more generally, it is okay for her to lie. This is because:

1. The press hates her.  2. She is treated worse because she is female.  3. She needs to get her message out.

Here is my take on things:

1. The MSM is out to get Mrs. Clinton.  They pounced on her after her terrible debate performance and forced her to admit it "wasn’t her best".  They want a horse-race. Now, maybe they aren’t causing her to stumble, but they sure are blowing her mistakes out of proportion, so that people who never witnessed her missteps come away with an exaggerated impression of how badly she screwed up.

2. Hillary Clinton faces more attention than would otherwise be the case.  She is a frontrunner AND a woman.  Being a female frontrunner means she gets attention for being a frontrunner coupled with attention for being a frontrunner who is female.  That is more attention than she should have to handle.

3. Hillary gets a nasty kind of press that the men in the race do not get. Sure, Obama is tagged as a Muslim and accused of not being authentically black.  Sure, Edwards has to deal with those rumors about having cheated on his wife with that film producer.  But neither one really has had to deal with the vicious personal attacks that Hillary "Shrillary-Hitlery" Clinton has had to.  Code Pink has targeted her specifically because she is female.  There are Internet rumors that Hillary is getting it on with her female aide, Huma Abedin.  When was the last time Bill Richardson was accused of having a male lover? Never!

For the foregoing reasons, I think it was okay for Hillary to plant that college student to ask her a question about global warming. Take a look at the following poll (I know it is a bit old):

The telephone survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted by Pulse Opinion Research on October 23, 2007. Pulse Opinion Research, LLC is an independent public opinion research firm using automated polling methodology and procedures licensed from Rasmussen Reports, LLC.

Now, we know the Gore-Obama ticket is not going to happen.  But what is interesting about this poll is anyone, really, could step into the Gore-Obama role, and reap the benefits of what this poll shows.  And this poll shows that Hillary Clinton is weak on the environment and global climate change. She probably has her own polling that suggests she needs to improve in this area.

That is why it was okay for her to plant that college student.  She needs to be able to take questions about global warming that enable her to get her message out and look good.  And it is fair for her to do that to counter all the unfair negativity coming at her from the MSM.
