I’m used to regular folks like us saying they won’t support our nominee if that turns out to be Hillary. But now our own Democratic candidates are refusing to say they’ll support her.
Senator Dodd just posted the following press release on his website.
DODD: DEMS NEED TO COME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE, REGARDLESS OF WHO IT IS
Release text:
Washington, DC - Senator and Presidential Candidate Chris Dodd today released the following statement after it was reported in The New York Times that John Edwards would not commit to support Hillary Clinton, should she be the Democratic nominee for President.
"I am surprised at just how angry John has become. This is not the same John Edwards I once knew. Of course, we should all come together to support the nominee. I wonder which of the Republicans John prefers to Hillary?"
Make the jump cos there’s more...
The press release finishes up with a link to a New York Times article regarding an interview they did with John Edwards recently.
So how is John Edwards feeling about Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York these days? So bad, apparently, that in an interview last week he twice refused to say whether he would endorse her should she win the Democratic presidential nomination.
It is a standard political question, which often comes with a standard answer. And it is highly unusual for a candidate to decline to answer whether he would ultimately support the party’s nominee.
When asked the same question last week, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois did not hesitate.
"I am a Democrat, and I would support the Democratic nominee," he said. With a smile, he added, "I intend it to be me."
Neither did Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, who declared: "Of course. What’s the choice, Rudy Giuliani?"
The article goes on to note that Edwards has since declined to answer this simple question by saying he’s not ready to answer that at this point.
WTF is he waiting for? It’s a simple question John – if you’re not the nominee, will you endorse and fight for whoever is? Even if that person turns out to be Hillary?
Maybe John should take a look at what Sen. Obama had to say about Hillary this time last year...
"You know, I think very highly of Hillary. The more I get to know her, the more I admire her. I think she’s the most disciplined—one of the most disciplined people I’ve ever met. She’s one of the toughest. She’s got an extraordinary intelligence." "She is—she’s somebody who’s in this stuff for the right reasons. She’s passionate about moving the country forward on issues like healthcare and children.

Now that folks, is how one Democrat talks to the MSM and our nation about another Democrat. Apparently, John’s not so sure about which party he’s backing after all those months on the campaign trail.
OMFG! I hope to hell the moderators at this Thursday’s debate ask Edwards point blank if he’ll support our party’s nominee if that happens to be Hillary. And in the absence of an "absolutely!" or a "yes, of course!", they’d better follow up by asking him which Republican he’d prefer to our nominee.
Because lets face it you guys – party unity is a hell of a lot more important than drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, or UF freakin’ Os.
I’ve said repeatedly that I’ll back whichever Dem gets the nod next year. We have an embarrassment of riches to choose from in next years’ primaries and I know the vast majority of folks here would agree with me on that. And so would Hillary. Looks like the other major Dems in this race agree too.
It’s time for John Edwards to step up to the plate and let us know he’s with us no matter who’s chosen. If Edwards won’t clear this up between now and Thursday’s debate, then the moderators need to get him on record regarding this vitally important issue.
