In the last week or so I have noticed a change in the way the 2008 election is being reported and I was wondering if others have observed this change as well. And I wonder if this is an actual change in the race dynamics or what is really behind it was the media quest for a tight primary race.
For the last few months the polls have shown and the MSM has reported, has all been about Hillary - Hillary has the big lead, Hillary is coasting to the nomination, nothing can stop Hillary. Then after a sub par debate performance, a small change in the polls and a few perceived miss-steps, it has all changed.
Now the MSM is all about a tigh race. Obama raising, Obama is making his move, can anything stop Obama?.. I have seen this mostly on MSNBC, but there seems to be an overall sense of a change in the story line by the media.
I know that many on the Daily Kos is very pro Obama and Edwards site, but I wonder if (in your opinions) you are seeing a true honest shift in the electorate or is this more of the MSM trying to drum up a primary race.
I am not asking this in a pro or against either Hillary, Obama or Edwards way.. But I am always concerned (and somewhat fascinated) with how much the MSM can shape the perception of a race and the effect that it can have.
Understanding that nothing the MSM fears more than a boring primary season, where the nomination is sown up before the first vote is cast. The MSM wants the race to be a drag out cliff hanger with candidates slugging it out until the time of the convention. The Republicans seem, at least to start off, will give them the race they are looking for, but I wonder if they (the media) are also trying to create a tighter race on the Democratic side than there really is. And I wonder if the media says the race is getting tighter is the reality or is it a storyline that reality will follow and it will actually make it happen.
