Oh, god, how I hate it when a tabloid story takes over cable network news.
How do we stop them from polluting the airwaves with the OJ Simpson garbage?

I can't imagine anyone who cares a bit about O.J. Simpson so why do the cable networks keep force feeding us this garbage?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:

  •  That's what the news producers and (8+ / 0-)

network execs tell us we want. That and the "one wife missing one wife dead" story. It doesn't matter what we want, it only matters what they tell us they want.

It's like the old Henry Ford quote.  Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black. Someone should remind the producers and execs what happened after that. Ford was #1 until Alfred Sloan discovered that people actually liked color.  After that GM was #1.

I forget to turn the damned thing on for weeks at a time. Pointless mind-sucking device. It deeply pisses me off to have to pay for cable service, then endure commercials anyway, in addition to the constant lower-one-third of the screen promotions for other shows. Constant advertising and constant billing. Piss on that.

Although ... last weekend, my significant other turned the machine on. We watched SAHARA, a hoot of an action/mindless adventure flick with Matt McCoughnahay ... crap, I can't spell that boy's name. But he makes me laugh. And I desperately needed to laugh because my dog was terribly sick; I thought she was dying, and no vet could treat her until Tuesday.

TV news ended with Dan Rather's obscene firing.

P.S. Once the vet treated her, my dog began recovering. She's still quite ill, but at least she isn't dying right now. Age 12 for a large breed, Lab ... it starts getting dicey.

  •  Just another distraction. (0+ / 0-)

But, then again, the public doesn't want to be bothered with political realities.  Bring on Paris and Britney, and of course, OJ.

point out how OJ endorsed Hillary (as if she had any control over it, and as if it were more significant than Ted Bundy not only endorsing but working closely with Republicans.)

But yet more footage of rich brats being boring, they can stuff it.

talking up the driver's licenses for illegal immigrant
issue. Brought on rabid xenophobe Pat Buchanan, who wants to make this THE issue. Just think: no health care, no end to Iraq, more falling wages, nothing done on global warming: but we kept Mexicans from getting a driver's license. The hell of it is, Republicans can get plenty of distraction about shit like this, and that's precisely what scapegoating has given cynical and unscrupulous leaders throughout the centuries: a chance to bait and switch.

      •  Hate to be snotty but (0+ / 0-)

        proper form is: "Hear, hear."

Here means where. The "hear, hear" is something akin to, "You can say that again!" -- so we can hear it again.

I think the term is generally related to the statement at the beginning of court, the "hear ye, hear ye, this court is now in session" thing.

Consider it the PTSD of being a former English teacher and longtime writer. Can't help myself on tossing out the occasional correction, but I didn't mean to be cruel.

The flip side is I willingly accept correction and criticism. I didn't always; took me a while to learn how much others could teach me, how wrong I could be.

Guess that's why I keep showing up at Daily Kos. I've yet to visit the site without learning something worthwhile, often something utterly unexpected.

I could give a fat fuck about O.J. and his issues. I have never and would never carry water for him. However, I am not surprised that 12 years later the media still doesn't get it. Black people didn't cheer O.J.'s innocent verdict. Black people did not cheer his escape from the criminal justice system. Most of us did not cheer. Those who did, cheered the 1 in a billion moment of comeuppance for a racist criminal justice system. For many of us the score that day looked like

    O.J.  Aqcuital        Legal/Illegal "Lynchings"
         1                 millions (and counting)

So today as I watch media experts drool over the prospect of O.J. finally getting his comeuppance while no one makes a mention of any other celebrity that has done fucked up shit and gotten off, no one gets excited about hating Phil Spector or Robert Blake or Woody Allen (not murder but Sun Yi is questionable as hell)and wonder if this will become a racial issue, I think to myself, you motherfuckers have already made it a racial issue. And the race is white. And for the record I think R. Kelley is pedophilic scum. Don't get it twisted.
