Answer - He wouldn't. Those of us who supported and worked for Wes Clark in 2004 did so because we believed that he was a great American, a patriot, and someone with the wisdom to change the course of our foreign policy from one where war and confrontation were the first choice to one where diplomacy is, where military force is the absolute last resort.
I realize that Hillary is not the most popular candidate on this blog, and that's fine. But the things that she is accused of - including being a hawkish neocon, a tool of the corporate interests, etc. etc. etc. are very disturbing to me, particularly since I think that she will in all likelihood be the Democratic nominee and we will need a united party to defeat the Republicans.
A few of the comments that Wes Clark made in his statement endorsing Hillary Clinton are:
Today, I am proud to announce my endorsement of Senator Hillary Clinton as President of the United States.
...
The world has reached a critical point, and we need a leader in the White House with the courage, intelligence and humility to navigate through many troubling challenges to our security at home and abroad. I believe Senator Clinton is that leader, and I whole-heartedly endorse her for President of the United States. Senator Clinton and I share a worldview in which diplomacy is the best first-strike tool in our arsenal; in today’s complicated global system, the United States should be making more friends than enemies.
Never before have so many Americans had our well-being so closely tied to world events. Our economic and national security has become more complicated than ever before, and we deserve a leader who draws on wisdom, compassion, intelligence and moral courage -- in short, we need Hillary Clinton. She is tough but fair, a rock-solid leader equal to the many weighty challenges ahead of us.
Wes Clark has tremendous experience in military affairs and international diplomacy, and he has served this nation ably and courageously for many years. I don't think anyone would accuse him of putting anything - anything! - above what he thinks is best for our country. I hope those of you who read all of the attacks against Hillary that appear on this site on a daily basis consider his views as you decide whom to vote for in your state's primary, and as you decide what you will do if she becomes our nominee.
