Senate Dems ready to fund the War with no strings attached

Mon Nov 19, 2007 at 08:27:49 AM PDT

Could the Senate Democrats actually be Republicans?

Senate Democrats appear ready to omit Iraq withdrawal timelines from a supplemental spending bill in hopes of clearing in December funds for the troops — but House leaders have no intentions of following suit.

The next partial-year war funding bill, although by no means finalized, would still include the Democrats’ call for a change of mission in Iraq, but without controversial withdrawal dates — a move that is intended to draw enough Republican votes to advance legislation in the Senate.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California, has said she would not bring another war funding bill to the floor this year, a concession she made to liberal caucus members in order to pass the House bill.

But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., pointedly refused to rule out a December war funding bill in the Senate when speaking to reporters Nov. 16.

“The House has made its position clear. Speaking for the Senate, we’re going to continue doing the right thing,” Reid said.

So, to recap:  funding the war indefinitely is the right thing to do, according to our own dear leader Harry Reid.  I don't have much more to say, except what the hell?  If Sen. Reid can't find the courage to do the actual right thing, which is to bring the troops home, why then does he have to do the wrong thing by attacking his (more) courageous counterpart in the House?

And isn't it funny, that mounting a primary challenge to a DINO is considered a waste of resources, and a betrayal, by the beltway insiders, but using right-wing talking points to damage your Democratic colleague in the press is A-OK?

and just now zipped it off to the Washington number (I'm on a limited service, so I have to be selective, dammit)

Anyway, this is what I sent:

    JUST SAY "NO!"

TO MORE MONEY FOR BUSH & CHENEY'S PET WAR

You know and I know that this request for funds isn't for the troops.
    It's for Bush's buddies and Cheney's cronies.

They're not fooling anyone, except maybe the 24% who still 'drink the kool-aid'.

    We, the People know:

2007 is officially the deadliest year for American troops in Iraq.
Despite the troop "surge," we have lost more troops in Iraq this year
than any other year since the war started.

    Iraqi deaths remain high.
An average of 56 Iraqis have died each day so far this year.

More that 2.3 million Iraqis have been displaced due to the war.
    At the beginning of this year, there were 500,000 displaced Iraqis;
now there are more than 2.3 million.

The number of Iraqi refugees grew 16% in September alone.
Over 80% of those displaced are women and children.

STOP THIS NOW!  TELL THIS MAL-ADMINISTRATION
    THAT THE BANK IS CLOSED.

Congress has a moral responsibility to stand up and fight Bush and the Republicans to force a change and end this war TODAY.

JUST SAY "NO!" TO MORE MONEY.

I haven't been able to get the font/bold changes to translate well, here, yet.  Please feel free to use this as a template and create your own flyer.

    Go get em', Kossacks!

    •  I started wondering (0+ / 0-)

when they kept referring to delaying only till "the end of the year" -- which of course if only a matter of weeks, then what?

"No more blank checks Mr.President. Do you hear that? No more funding ... well until we fund it in a few weeks. Now take that ..." -- yea. That's showing 'em.
      Then, here's your blank check?
      That's clamping down alright.
