From the candidates' announcements to around this time, both of my parents were planning to support John Edwards. Today, I just got off the phone with them to wish them a Happy Thanksgiving and they both told me that support is shifting. My dad who seemed pretty firmly on the Edwards side is now undecided as he has recently been impressed by Hillary. My mom, whose support for Edwards was pretty soft, is now planning to support Hillary as well, though that can change in the next month.
They pay attention to the news and are strong Democrats, but they are not like us. They don't blog (they don't even have a computer), watch every debate or read every scrap of news like we do. On the other hand, they are not zombies easily lead by the MSM (before I see any remarks about my parents here). At one time, my second choice was Edwards, but that changed some time ago. The fact is, whether you want to admit it or not, Hillary is grinding away at people's initial opposition to her. And despite recent hiccups she is not spiraling downward as Republican journalist John Halpernin would have you think. Is she did not respond to her opponents, she would be accused of being aloof. But my main point of not about Hillary, it's the fact that, as we draw near to casting actual votes, minds are changing, opinions are forming and allegiances are shifting. And there are more hands to be played before January 3.
Happy Thanksgiving all.
