Every Christmas, the San Francisco SPCA takes over the "holiday windows" of a big department store in downtown San Francisco and populates them with adoptable animals. Not only are literally hundreds of dogs and cats adopted, but thousands of people line up just to see the animals in their holiday setting. This year, they've been streaming video from webcams in the various windows on their website, so even more people can enjoy the cute little animals.
Today when I checked the site, I was appalled to discover that this little bit of holiday cheer had been hijacked by notorious right-wing hate radio station KSFO.
I don't think I have to tell anyone reading this what a steaming pile of wingnut hatred KSFO is. If you need a refresher course, Spocko has done tremendous work in this area. Suffice it to say, I can't think of a more inappropriate choice for a sponsor of this event, especially in San Francisco. And the holiday windows are an extremely popular event. Many people from all parts of the Bay Area make trips to Union Square just to see them. It's not like finding a sponsor for the webcams would be difficult. Whoever decided to give this prime spot to a wingnut hate radio station needs to hear, loud and clear, that they are WRONG.
Contact the SFSPCA at (415) 554-3000 - wait for the option to connect to "Public Information". Send them an email at: PublicInfo@sfspca.org and PublicRelations@sfspca.org. Tell them to end KSFO's sponsorship NOW.
I volunteer at another animal rescue organization in the Bay Area and am painfully aware of how strapped for funds these groups are. However, as I mentioned earlier, the SFSPCA's Holiday Windows event is extremely popular and any number of businesses in San Francisco would be more than happy to have their name associated with it. The SFSPCA needs to find one of them and dump Hate Radio.
UPDATE: I thought of a better title for this diary...
