Sent to jetBlue today:
I wanted to inform you that I just booked 2 cross country flights on American Airlines for $298.80. I had loyally flown jet Blue for 3 years but after jetBlue cowered to Bill O’Reilly, a well documented liar and provocateur, and rescinded your sponsorship of YearlyKos 2007, as a patriotic American, I can no longer fly your airline in good conscience. Rather than quietly pass on your services, I feel it is my duty as a loyal American to highlight my choice in using another carrier to make sure that the significance of your sponsorship retraction is illuminated as yet another example of the continued erosion of our freedom and democracy and the irrational cowering to the rhetoric and smear tactics of the most odious characters of our national discourse.
continued below the fold...
The DailyKos community has been lauded by numerous national political leaders as what is best in democracy. An enormous and free marketplace for ideas and solutions with a 100,000 strong member community and over 20 million unique visitors per month. The comments that O’Reilly exploited were posted on the site by "trolls", people whose intent is to sabotage the community, and the comments were summarily "troll rated" by the members. Perhaps the downside to freedom and free speech is that people opposed to it can exploit it with Orwellian tactics. And jetBlue and the nation it serves have become victims to the exact kind of tactics that lead administration loyalists, themselves afraid to serve, to label highly decorated combat veterans who oppose their policies as traitors to America and the troops.
I really enjoyed flying on jetBlue and always tried to use your carrier, but I realize that hereafter, anytime anyone flies on your aircraft, they too are now cowering to the same fear mongering demagoguery that is blackening our Constitution. I value our democracy too much, and so, I will make clear to everyone I know the significance of what jetBlue has done that they too may never fly jetBlue again and dim the light of American freedom and democracy.
Regretfully,

I wrote this because I feel it is important to not just avoid companies that support the degradation of our Constitution, but to continually remind them of the real economic consequences of their unpatriotic actions.
