are you fucking kidding me?
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has been talking for some time now about how, if she is elected president, she will ask both Democratic and Republican statesmen to hit the road on her behalf to declare that "bipartisan foreign policy is back" in post-George W. Bush America.
While Mrs. Clinton has pointed to her husband as an emissary, it has been unclear for some time which Republicans she had in mind. But in South Carolina today, speaking to a group of black ministers, Mrs. Clinton dropped a name publicly that she has hinted at privately before.
"I won’t even wait until I’m inaugurated, but as soon as I’m elected I’m going to be asking distinguished Americans of both parties — people like Colin Powell, for example, and others — who can represent our country well, including someone I know very well," Mrs. Clinton said, according to a Fox News Web report. "Because I want to send a message heard across the world. The era of cowboy diplomacy is over."
What's next? Jayson Blair for press secretary?
Remember this little incident at the UN? Powell's former chief of staff does.
Even if you are sympathetic to Powell and maintain that he let himself be manipulated, he's still complicit in the deaths of a half million people. He belongs in jail, not in a position of responsibility. If he knew what he was doing, what reason would he have for wanting to serve in a Clinton administration? If he was mislead and got the raw end of the deal, what reason would he have for wanting to go back into public service and carry water for a different administration? It makes no sense. It's not like he's given any indication he'd be interested.
Mr. Powell’s assistant said he was out of the office today but had seen the news report from South Carolina. "He’s not been in touch with Senator Clinton in regards to this, and has no comment," said his assistant, Peggy Cifrino.
If you're going to drop names for the sake of dropping names, you might want to go with someone people actually respect. Someone who has been shown engaging in deception for the purpose of achieving a political goal is useless as a diplomat. Of all the wounds inflicted on the American people by this administration, it's the theft of our national respect and honor that cut the deepest. We need honorable people as our agents in international diplomacy, not proven liars like Colin Powell and Bill Clinton.
How about giving Joe Wilson a primo appointment? That might turn some heads.
I have no problem with bipartisanship in theory, so long as the Republicans are not one of the two parties in question. I'm open to compromising with divergent points of view for the sake of political expediency. I'm not open to compromising with evil.
Is there any polling data indicating that individuals sympathetic to the Republican point of view have any interest in bipartisanship or is this triangulating with a figment of your imagination? All the sane republicans jumped ship a long time ago. All that's left under the Republican banner is a bunch of frothing hate filled animals who seek nothing less than the destruction of all that even moderate Americans consider just, good and right. It's been my hunch that people who say they favor bipartisanship simply want an end to the conflict and gridlock that's a DC staple. They do not propose sacrificing their values to get there.
With all due respect Ms. Clinton, what the fuck are you thinking?
