Fellow Kossians - If there are any Californians reading this, please write TODAY 12/15/03 to Secretary of State Kevin Shelley. Ask him to hold off on Diebold's pending certification as a vendor of touch-screen voting equipment; tell him "don't certify any vendor that doesn't include a voter-verified paper ballot IN TIME FOR 2004." The meeting with Diebold is set for tomorrow...
thus the need for the letters to arrive today.
REMIND him that this will save the taxpayers significant money; Diebold has agreed (their representative said it in front of witnesses at the Board of Supervisors meeting) that not only is it possible to add voter verified paper ballots for 2004, they "will do it if asked."
Shelley has asked for the retrofit of equipment in time for 2005/2006, but voters deserve to have a voter-verified paper ballot for EVERY election. We know the vendors can and will oblige.
Any or all of these three addresses should work:
constituentaffairs@ss.ca.gov
elections@ss.ca.gov
dmehlhaf@ss.ca.gov
We need as many letters as possible, so if you have two minutes, please do it. Include your contact info so they know each letter is legit and distinct. Tell him why it matters to you.
