This evening's CNN YouTube Republican Debate was certainly lively! To my mind, the YouTube questions are often more gutsy and cutting than those asked by debate moderators.
Here are my impressions of tonight's debate, running from the substantive to the sarcastic (big surprise!):
1.) Fred Thompson got spanked by Anderson Cooper for his awkward attack ad. Hey, Anderson has a spine! Who knew?
2.) John McCain is losing it more each minute! He actually equated the Iraq War with fighting Hitler in WWII. Please!
3.) Whaddya know?! A gun nut asked one of the YouTube questions. Come on, did anyone think there wouldn't be one?
4.) Hilarious unintentional comic moment: Watching way-too-white Mitt Romney talk about helping African-Americans!
5.) Christianity and the Death Penalty is debated. And, of course, the gutless Republicans punt! Still get a kick out of Huckabee calling himself a Christian. Answer the question, Mike! How do you call yourself a Christian and support the Death Penalty?
6.) The debate program was sponsored by the "Clean Coal" people. Please! Two hours of "Let's Use Coal Forever!" commercials. Three words: Stop. The. Madness!
7.) Most of the Republicans showed their prejudiced, homophobic stripes. Wow, whatta surprise!
8.) The Giuliani 9/11 Counter! Wow, Rudy must've racked up a record number of 9/11 references in one answer!
9.) Space exploration was debated. Hey, if we quit invading countries unnecessarily, we could actually afford science! Remember science, folks?
10.) The New York Times was Live Blogging the debate. Even more entertaining are the comments made about the Live Blogging! Link: http://tinyurl.com/...
Overall, a good debate! The YouTube Debates are a good concept that keep you engaged all the way through, and offer questions you usually just don't see on these things.
