Stem Cell Success Story Should Shame Repugnacans

Sun Nov 04, 2007 at 08:47:24 AM PDT

Cameron Petersen is a 21 month old child whose family was given no hope for treatment by doctors. That is no hope by doctors in the US. China on the other hand offers cutting edge stem cell treatment that is not available here thanks to our repugnacan leadership.
Cameron suffers from optic nerve hypoplasia, a leading cause of blindness in children. The condition causes underdevelopment of the optic nerve and can lead to permanent blindness.
Cameron was treated using the latest in stem cell technology, not in the U.S. but in China.
Cameron is now showing significant improvement. Please follow the link below for details.

It is shameful that American citizens are being denied treatment that is safe and effective. We are losing the leadership role we had as a nation in technology and medicine because the repugnacan party has bowed to the religious right. As stated in the article people gathered from across the nation to learn more about this treatment option. Rather than going to their own doctors for treatment they have to raise money to travel to China to get cutting edge treatment.
This issue needs to come back to the forefront as we elect new leaders next November. I haven't heard a single question asked of any candidate about this issue. I think I know where all the repugs are on this, somewhere in the 14th century.
The Democratic candidates need to own this issue and rub the repugs noses in the success stories that we have to go to China to get.
