Hey, insomniacs: What made you laugh out loud today?

Okay, maybe the topic is slight, but the diary has rich potential if I can persuade enough of you to tell your stories.

What got a chuckle out of you today? Was it a bad joke told by your brother-in-law? Something you read? Did you see it on TV? Was it a kitten or puppy being cute?

Better yet, did you laugh at yourself?

My first giggle of the day was at my own expense and if you follow me over the flip, I'll tell you about it.

Picture a frazzled weekend of manic rearranging from basement to attic. We've got our youngest son moving back in next week and I'm working my butt off trying to make room for his stuff in a house already crowded with stuff from the oldest kid who left it here when he moved in with his girlfriend.

So I'm worn a little thin from too much to do and not much time before the U-Haul gets here on Wednesday. Anyway, I'm getting ready to work in the basement and set a pair of gloves on the floor next to my sneakers. I put one shoe on, tie it up then instead of grabbing for the other sneaker, I reach for a glove and get it almost to my toes before I figure it out. Cracked me right up!

My second gaffaw of the day I owe to Phyllis on last week's episode of "The Office." If you saw it, you remember her annoying the "Finer Things in Life Club" by putting popcorn in the microwave.

Pam asks her, "Why don't you use the microwave in the lunchroom?"

And Phyllis wrinkles up her nose and says, "Somebody needs to clean it, it smells like popcorn."

Three days it's been since I saw the show and every time I think of that line: "It smells like popcorn," it makes me laugh. Clearly I need more sleep!

If you watch it, don't like it, then find another song instead of starting this whole mess. Now, I respect your taste in music, but don't make sweeping generalizations about the whole population of people who actually like this stuff. Respect the music as an art form; I couldn't care less if you don't like it.

      He was 27 and I was 35. Now I am blessed with a two-story, five bedroom house, but there would be times he'd IM me while we were in the SAME house. It was a little strange. It never got any responses after  I said something like "Get the fuck up and walk up stairs."

  The decision to surround the New York senator with one-inch-thick walls of soundproof glass struck many Democratic insiders as a sign of just how risk-averse the Clinton campaign has become.

  But with Clinton leading all of her rivals by a formidable margin, campaigning inside a soundproof box could be the surest way to protect her front-runner status down the homestretch, aides believe.

  Clinton’s soundproof box made its debut last week at a candidates’ forum in Davenport, Iowa, where she was seemingly impervious to the attacks of her closest rival, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. After Obama excoriated her for voting to authorize the war in Iraq, Clinton merely smiled and mouthed the words "I can’t hear you."

  Clinton aides also confirmed after the debate that the senator’s face would be shot up with Botox to freeze her features in the most inoffensive expression possible for the remainder of the campaign.

  Professor Davis Logsdon, chairman of the political science department at the University of Minnesota, says that Clinton’s Botox strategy could prove whether a totally lifeless, emotionless candidate can win the White House.

  "It didn’t work for Kerry," he says.

  Elsewhere, a new survey from the American Psychological Association shows that one out of three adults feels extreme stress, especially after taking a survey from the American Psychological Association.

  After a pretty intense troubleshooting session today and seeing my puppies COVERED in black mud (my sprinkler system in the back yard sprung a leak and they had a ball playing in the resulting mud hole). I dunno why, but it tickled me.

  I didn't have time to do much more than turn the water off, figuring I'd give them a bath later to get the mud out of their coats, but moments later they were clean and dry. That's one of the benefits of Boston Terriers. The dirt just pops off of their coats and they rarely need baths.

  My dogs were romping and running through the house and the cat was watching in disgust at the end of the hallway. The oldest dog came zooming down the hallway, hit the rug about the same time he saw the cat. He put the brakes hard and as he and the rug started sliding, he squeezed his eyes shut knowing he was headed straight towards THE CLAW!
  If I'd captured it on video I would have a small fortune.
