Total: 2003
This list almost certainly understates the total counts of Americans killed because:
A. It only includes three countries. American troops are active in over 100 countries, with many of those deployments relating to Bush's wars.
B. It only includes reported deaths of soldiers. Regular Army, Marines, or National Guard deaths are usually well reported, but this is not always the case with Special Operations personnel. Deaths among these elite units may go unreported.
C. The number of deaths among contractors is likely vastly understated. There is not requirement for a centralized reporting of contractor deaths, and the companies may often prefer to keep them quiet. Casualties among American contractors manyt already be in the hundreds.
This list, of course, ignores the tens of thousands of civilians killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is not meant to downplay those tragedies, but simply to remind Americans that the cost of Bush's policies is very high here as well as abroad.
