My Friend Katie on BlogTalkRadio

Wed Nov 07, 2007 at 07:11:47 PM PDT

On Thursday, eminent DKos diarists clammyc and thereisnospoon will be interviewing Rev. Katie White, one of the Erie Six, on their BlogTalkRadio program ePluribus Radio.  The Erie Six were six of the nine patriots who were arrested for an act of civil disobedience in protest of the war in Iraq;  these six refused to pay the fine, and so were sentenced to five days in jail (more here).  Hear her talk about her background, her motivation for protesting the war, her experiences during the protest and in court, and (if I know Katie) quite a bit more.  You can listen live at 11:30 AM EST on Thursday, November 8, or you can download it later as a podcast.  The link to the interview is here.

More details below the fold.

Two weeks ago, I posted a diary about my friend Katie, who, with 5 others, went to jail for 5 days for an act of civil disobedience.  On March 19th of this year, the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the war in Iraq, nine people, Katie among them, blocked the entrance to the Federal Building in Erie, PA.  Six of the nine refused to pay the fine, and so were sentenced to jail for 5 days.  I wrote that diary so that people outside northwestern Pennsylvania might find out about this act of heroism and patriotism.

That diary ended up attracting a whole lot more attention than I expected it to.  Many people praised the acts of Katie and the rest of the Erie Six, and now, thanks to clammyc and thereisnospoon, you have the opportunity to hear Katie explain it all to you herself.  On Thursday, November 8 (tomorrow as I post this), at 11:30 AM EST, they will interview Katie on their BlogTalkRadio program ePluribus Radio.  You can listen live, or you can download the interview as a podcast later.  The link to the interview is here.

Katie is a minister in the American Baptist Church, the denomination of Martin Luther King, Jr.  She is a wife and the mother of ten children.  Two of her sons have served in the military;  on is an Iraq War veteran, and the other is an active-duty Marine who has served in Afghanistan.  Katie is an Evangelical Christian who does not fit the stereotype of Evangelical Christians that most of us hold in our minds, particularly in the realm of politics.

You will get to know Katie, learn about what is important to her, and understand why she participated in blocking Erie's Federal Building and why she went to jail.  She will also talk about what she experienced during all these events.  You won't be disappointed!
