BREAKING: I'm Not Sure I Hate Daily Kos
Thu Nov 08, 2007 at 08:27:20 AM PDT
Okey dokey...I've never gone meta in my life but I figure now is a good time to start, what with the spate of diaries on today's plate...not that I'm susceptible to peer pressure, mind you. Not a bit.
I haven't been posting much at all lately. For a variety of reasons. Some local, some global. Time, tide, life have caused me to turn my eyes from these hallowed orange halls to focus on other endeavors. Still, I have not been spending much time here...I open the laboratory of my own processes for your persual, thoughts and amusement.
The events of the last several months: O.K...I'm slightly burned out after orgying for hours here during the 2006 election and the cavalcade of hearings during the Golden Age of Gonzo. I have to say, I feel like a drunken john that pledged everlasting love to a rouged trollop only to wake up that's been rolled by corporatist . I'm bitterly disappointed to wake up several dollars lighter, to find myself faced down in the gutter clutching an empty bottle. I knew better. I'm smart and savvy. My eyes were open to who I was being wooed by but I continued undaunted because I believed/believe that ANYTHING would be better than the nihilistic sociopaths that set about to destroy the inner fabric of this country for the last eight years. I still believe that to be the case...However, I find myself almost entirely unable to defend the inaction, the lack of opposition and to paint silver linings around the grey clouds of Dem leadership.
In sum, I guess one can never be too jaded to be taken...particularly when one wants to be taken SO badly. But, yep, seeing that the triangulatin' Dem leadership (DSCC/DCCC) once again offer a handful of gimmee and a mouth full of much obliged, I'm left without many words to write here. (Personally, I feel that this country would be very well served were it to be mandated that the corporate shills in Congress wear shirts with the advertisements/logos of their corporate sponsors...kinda like NASCAR and the bicycle racers...Some, like Lieberman, would have very colorful, crowded shirts. But, I digress).
The Tone Here: As well, just between you and me, I'm really not interested in the continual internecine sniping, squabbling and dissembling that fills this place during primary season. No biggy. I come here for information, news and to visit with my virtual homies...discorporated spirits (at least for me) that are insightful, hysterically funny, snarky, brilliant, incisive, compassionate, analytical, etc. This is not quite the only game in town for this type of correspondence...but it's close.
The signal to noise ratio, as of late...in conjunction with TPBS ("Temporary Political Burnout Syndrome" or make up your own words to fit the initials) has, to these sensitive ears, become a bit higher. My problem, not yours.
I realize that the afore-said sniping is part and parcel part of a rich 400 years of bruising and colorful history of American politics. Nothing new here. Sock puppets. Check! Political operatives skewing the diaries. Check! Karl Rove disguised as an activist to cast waves of betrolled murkery. Check!! Sometimes it can be entertaining. Fascinating, even. Still in all, there's just not that much for me to add. And to the extent that the pitch rises to shrill (at least to these ears), I just kinda get overloaded and start dribbling down my chin. I very much tend to make my own judgements based on spurious indicia so I doubt that I'll read much by the way of candidate besmirchment that will make me take notice. (OTOH, give me a reason to support a given candidate and I tend to wake up a bit.)
Realistically, I will find myself voting for ANY ONE of the survivors - politics as a Meta Reality Show. In fact, just surviving the process may be a strong indicator that a candidate has the right stuff. While I have preferences, I'm used to my preferences not making it...starting in 1968 or thereabouts. We can have a semi-corrupt corporate shill, power mad and playing footsy with any number of industries and they will still be will be better than the Conspirator in Chief and his merry crew of nihilistic sociopathic thugs. That's just the facts. Hell...I'll probably contribute time and money to make sure that it won't go to a repub...Even though almost any of them will be better than the Chimp.
Still. This is a great and worthwhile show. One of the best. It's a wild frontier here at KOS and I love the barbaric almost as much as I love the uber refined. I love scanning the posts and occasionally commenting. Other than that, I haven't diaried in a while and wanted to write something to go with the title while giving a slight explanation. What can I say? Hi to all my buds and buddettes (still not sure who is male and who female here). Nice to see y'all. So, nope. Not a GBCW diary. Just some meandering, pre-caffeinated observations apropos to not very much. Feel free to drop by and be convivial. Or not.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln...how was the play?
