Democrats now have blood on their hands...

Fri Nov 09, 2007 at 09:36:16 AM PDT

What made the last 6 years bearable for many of us?   The fact that there was not a shadow of a doubt that this war and every disgusting part of it, belonged exclusively to George Bush, Dick Cheney and the mostly Republican group of lawmakers who continue to support them.   With one international law after another having been ignored, with the hundreds of thousands dead, disabled or insane as a result of it, how can anyone in the house or senate consider giving this administration anything that might add to this mess.  I do not understand what makes these people tick?  What rational could they possibly have to allow a man who refuses to define torture to run the Justice department.  We have worked tirelessly to get Democrats in there to start bringing back the integrity we as a country have lost internationally.  I can honestly say that I cannot imagine what reason Schulmer and Feinstein could possibly have to rationalize this vote... even if it were for some political calculation, fear of looking weak, fear of what?  Are these people so jaded that they don't even see just how disgraceful this is?  Has the propiganda inside the beltway made them freaking crazy?

This is a loss, a very expensive loss.  The Democrats are playing strategy at a time when this country needs leadership.  The senators are cosigning torture and now they own it, now the blame goes to all of them.  Was this positioning for an election?  Building up your "tough on terror" reputation? What excuse could you possibly given yourselves to allow yourself to sink this low.  They are driving good hardworking lifelong democrats from the party.

What does this vote predict for the future of this country?  When Democrats support the nomination of a tainted "judge", what follows torture?  This president wanted torture, he got torture.... well, he wants to bomb Iran, with nuclear bombs... will he get that Senator Schumer?  Will he Senator Feinstein?  Will you give him a good scolding if he does, pay lip service??  I know you're bot good at that.  _Will you try to stop him?  Will Hillary?  Will any of them??  or have they already made some back door deal with Bush?  Surely this nomination wasn't made without some slight of hand or wink and a nod.. When the  queen of the DLC voted to call Iranian soldiers "terrorists", is this how she tries to stop a war Bush is building up to?   Does Chuck or Diane care of we bomb the piss out of Iran?  We can't know this.. who would ever have guessed they support torture.  And Sorry Folks, the "I thought he'd us diplomacy" line won't work this time... no more than Feinsteins 'another candidate may have been worse"... really Diane???  Is there anyone worse than a torturer??  If this man who has sworn to protect the constitution, do you really think if he's willing to torture he won't he be willing to do just about anything Bush asks him to do?  If a torturer is what you would settle on without even trying, you have let the American people know just what kind of a woman you are.

we all have some blood on our hands. How we live affects the lives of others. Have any diamonds? Use gas?

    shrug.

The other guys are worse, but our guys really should be better and so should we.

McCheney campaigns on fear, just like Bush did.

    •  speak for yourself, I'm a piece activist and (0+ / 0-)

worked hard to get al gore into office.  Write letters to your newspapers, send emails and snail mail to your congresspeople & senators, give all you can to progressive candidates.  When everyone does at least that much, maybe then the democrats will listen.  they don~t listen because they know they have our votes anyway.....

those in the seat of power, take for example, Rahm Emanual, (the head of the congressional reelection com.), the day after we won back both houses, the most stunning results in years, he wanted to fire Howard Dean.... HOWARD DEAN... the man who was laughed at for his 50 state movement policy, the policy which made it possible to win back the house and senate.

Dean has proven that there is one good man in the DNC but Emanual has tried to get rid of him since day one.

  •  The Dems have had blood on their hands (5+ / 0-)

since they funded the continuing occupation of Iraq at the beginning of the summer.

As George McGovern said on the floor of the Senate during a similarly dangerous time "This chamber reeks of blood."

When a government violates the unalienable rights of the people, it loses its legitimacy.

  •  Sorry but I disagree, not with the fact... (4+ / 0-)

...that Democrats have blood on their hands, but that is not something that happend NOW, it's been that way for quite awhile.

There are alot of Democratic fingerprints on the Iraq War, many voted for the original resolution, so I must take you to task here:

The fact that there was not a shadow of a doubt that this war and every disgusting part of it, belonged exclusively to George Bush, Dick Cheney and the mostly Republican group of lawmakers who continue to support them.

The Democrats have largely been complicit with the Bush Administration for years. Large numbers voted for the war, they continue to fund it, they will keep troops there for years, they will continue the builing of an embassy in Iraq larger than some small cities, and support war against Iran. I think you are letting the Democrats off too easy.

... and so we will continue voting for them as the lesser of two evils. FWIW, I think the Dem leadership takes us all for granted and forgets that this sort of thing depresses voter turnout because it forces people to still cast ballots for evil.

And as someone else noted, they've been playing this nasty little game with us for a long time now. Their refusals to defend the Constitution all along the line, from preserving habeas corpus to enabling illegal electronic surveillance, have now resulted in their support for violating the Geneva Conventions and every civilized law of God and man.

By their latest actions, they no longer have the moral authority to talk about the rule of law (if they ever did). In other words, we're screwed.
