Via the Bluegrass Report, State Auditor Crit Luallen is not running against Mitch McConnell next year:
"While I have been honored that so many respected state and national leaders have encouraged me to consider running for the United States Senate in 2008, I have no plans to enter the race. I have just been reelected as State Auditor and look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Kentucky in that capacity. The polls show that Mitch McConnell is certainly vulnerable and Kentuckians are ready for a change. I am confident that Democrats will field a strong candidate next year."
But do not despair!
Back in November, Kos showed us a Rasmussen poll that indicated there was an even stronger candidate against McConnell.
Rasmussen. 11/1. Likely voters. MoE 4.5% (No trend lines)
McConnell (R) 48
Stumbo (D) 41
McConnell (R) 49
Luallen (D) 39
McConnell's under 50%, and sticking his foot in his mouth like it's his job. Greg Stumbo's over 40%, and just finished his term as Attorney General (elected statewide). And Andrew Horne may still be considering a run.
This race is still strongly in play.
UPDATE: AP Confirms.
