From long-shot to reality: the Ohio special election is now very, very winnable. The Politico is now reporting that an internal poll conducted by Republican Bob Latta last week showed him trailing Democrat/Netroots Favorite Robin Weirauch by four points. No need to rub your eyes, you read that right: Weirauch was beating Latta in a Republican internal poll.
Republican internal polls in districts with a PVI of R+10 are never supposed to show the Democrat ahead. This race truly is a testament to how strong the Democratic Party can be if all of our factions work together and focus our energy - we can truly turn a blip on the radar into a race that forces national Republicans to spend over $400,000 in funds that they don't have. That in itself is a win, but just imagine how much sweeter it'll be if they spend all of that money and still lose.
This race, though Election Day may well be tomorrow, is far from over though. Turnout will be everything in determining who wins. Special elections always have extremely low-turnouts, but it's also being reported that the weather will be absolutely treacherous tomorrow. Thus, every single vote is crucial to win. That's where you come in.
At a time when I really, really cannot afford to donate an hour's worth of time, that's exactly what I'll be doing tomorrow in making phone calls from the virtual phone bank that the campaign has set up. Early absentee totals are showing some great news for Weirauch, but me and you have to get those people in the district through the ice storm and to their polls tomorrow. Email the campaign at phonebank4robin@gmail.com immediately to sign up and make some calls from the warm confines of your home/work tomorrow.
Obama has stepped up as have Edwards, Dodd, Jim Himes and countless others. Now it's your turn.
