As I understand it, Daily Kos is a site devoted to getting Democrats (progressive Democrats?) elected. Every day there are numerous "my candidate is great, your candidate blows" diaries and comment exchanges. And generally, speaking this debate is good. It makes us stronger...it's a forum for hashing out ideas, etc. But really, looking at the Republican slate, isn't it fair to say that most of us will (should?) vote for the Democratic nominee even if he/she is not our first choice?
Wouldn't it be good if, during these heated "my candidate is better than your candidate" debates we had some sort of acknowledgment that despite our differences we're on the same team?
A modest proposal below.
I suggest two things. Use the comment section down below to acknowledge your assent to this simple pledge:
- If my choice for Democratic nominee doesn't win the primary, I will vote for the Democratic nominee in the Presidential general election.
Then when you are posting a diary or comment, you can say "I took the Hilobamedwardsondoddinich Pledge" or the "HBE Pledge" for short (apologies to the second tier candidates)and provide a link to your comment below. If this becomes well known enough, you'll only need to reference the Pledge - no link even necessary.
As a second thought, you can add "I took the Hilabamwardsdendoddinich PLEDGE" in your Comments signature (click on your profile if you are not sure what I mean) and then every time you put down someone else's candidate at least they know you'll vote for their candidate if they prevail.
Just a friendly reminder that the worst of our guys is still light years better than Rudy Giuliani.
