One of our local activists, Nick Egnatz of Veterans for Peace, has called for impeachment. In a letter published in the The Post-Tribune (it's the third letter), Egnatz made this point:
Impeachment is necessary because we are either a country of laws or we are not. There are certainly many other absolutely legitimate grounds for impeachment, but the war of aggression is the most glaring.
He's right.
He also inspired me to write a(nother) letter to Rep. Pete Visclosky (IN-01). I've included it below the fold.
It's past time to put a halt to the Bush/Cheney criminal cabal.
IMPEACH CHENEY FIRST
or
IMPEACH BOTH CHENEY AND BUSH.
I've tried to be polite and reasonable in my prior communications, but today, I'm out of patience.
STOP SCREWING AROUND! Stop worrying about Rethuglican backlash. Stop being concerned who might get caught up as a collaborator. Stop triangulating. Stop caving in to illegal demands from CRIMINALS!
START HEARINGS TODAY! I don't care if you're about to leave for the holidays, stay to make sure we don't have more recess approintments and back door deals. I don't care if it shuts down the government. We have NO GOVERNMENT NOW, at least one based on a Constitution I used to know, so shut it down if thats what it takes.
ACT ON YOUR OATH TO DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION 'AGAINST ENEMIES - foreign and DOMESTIC'! Impeachment is our last and only option to hold these mobsters responsible for the death and destruction they've caused.
No more excuses, no more stalling, no more double-speak, no more manuevering. NO MORE!
DO. YOUR. DAMN. JOB. AND. IMPEACH. THE. MOTHERFUCKERS. NOW!
I can't make it any clearer than that. Just DO it!
Constitutionally and lividly yours,
HoosierDeb
And even as I hit the send button on my letter, I have little confidence it will pentrate the Beltway Bubble.
Sigh...................
