I have been a regular visitor, several times per day, of this site for going on over three years now. At first, I was captivated by all of the knowledgeable people all seemingly working on a common goal of winning the 2004 election.
That's not when I got bored. This site along with Americablog, Liberal Oasis, Talking Points Memo, were my daily news feed and pulse on the world. They still are. However, I'm beginning to see these sites including Daily Kos in a different light.
Sure, its easy to complain and I admit that's what I'm doing. And, I don't expect anyone to change a thing because its not in one person's control, its more like a movement of ad nauseum, boredom, faux outrage, paranoia, bitterness, accusatory diaries, and basically campaigning for your favorite candidate diaries.
Everyday on the Most Recommended list, I see and I'm joking here, "John Edwards takes a dump and that's why he's my candidate", "Hilary Clinton or Joe Biden slams someone", "Barack knocks one out of the park". I'm becoming jaded. Yeah, sure I like a democratic candidate but this is like watching paint dry.
First of all there's the over exaggeration of someone slamming another and then the ridiculousness (spelling?) of the everyday speech or statement by your candidate making headlines here like every two hours. Come on. Give it a break, please!
Take a minute and look at it from the outside perspective. You come here to check out this site and all you see are basic campaign advertisements on why your candidate is better than the other. Am I wrong?
And then we have the "Why I believe so and so is right or the best choice for president" crappy diaries. I can't say this enough, its getting really OLD. I can't wait until the primaries are over so maybe, just maybe, we can concentrate on the opposition and unite once again.
And for those of you who think that either I'm willfully ignorant, lazy, or don't want to know the details about all of the candidates, you're wrong. I read some of that crap, just enough to know what the basic beliefs, accusations, credibility, etc. on each candidate and I make my own choices. Just like many on this site don't want to be preached to about religion. I sure as heck don't want to be preached to about your candidate.
How about more fact based, less opinion based diaries on the candidates, you know, kind of like the observations that Kos and many of the front pagers on this site do.
I don't think that will happen. The only way it could is for a spin-off site like (ala. TPM Muckraker) where campaign opinions about your candidate are the overall theme of the site. Personally, and this is my opinion, I'd rather see news and other normal topics that we talk about here, then the other diaries I'm criticizing today. I'd rather learn more info about what the repugs are doing, what's happening in Congress, etc.
