I wrote a comment yesterday about whether Bill Shaheen, the co-chair of the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign in New Hampshire was acting of his own free will when he questioned Barack Obama's adolescent drug use, or whether he was a tool of the Clinton campaign.
I know I wear my tin-foil hat a lot these days, but whether he just spoke stupidly, or was told what to say, the desired results were achieved today.
More below the fold....
Here's Shaheen's quote to the media:
"It’ll be: When was the last time? Did you ever give drugs to anyone? Did you ever sell them?"
Here's Hillary's apology:
"As soon as I found out that one of my supporters and co-chairs in New Hampshire made a statement, asked a series of questions, I made it clear it was not authorized, it was in no way condoned, I didn't know about it and he stepped down," Clinton said. "I made it very clear as soon as I heard about it that I not only disapproved, it did not reflect the campaign I am running," said Clinton. "I did personally apologize, the gentleman in question has stepped down from the leadership role in my campaign."
But she also said:
"There are a lot of differences between us, and those are the contrasts that should be drawn," said Clinton. "I'm running a campaign about who I am, what I've done and that's what I'm going to stay focused on."
Oh yeah, a lot of differences. For instance, he's quite possibly AN ADDICT, and I'm not.....
And today, there on the editorial page of the New York Times, was Gail Collins' article, Barack’s Blast From the Past. What was the article about? Obama's drug use. See, Shaheen's story did exactly what it was supposed to do; get the word out to the MSM....Obama is....a druggie.....a black druggie......maybe even a pusher!
Here's what I want to know: What would Gail Collins have written about if Billy Shaheen had talked to the media about Obama's 'problem?' Something else, I'm, pretty sure. The story is now officially OUT, and nothing Obama can say or do will put it back in the box.
See, this is politics from back in the day; the Roger Ailes, Lee Atwater, Karl Rove type of politics that certainly works, and we Democrats always wished we had an answer for.
I can't help thinking Hilary knew that. I also can't help thinking the Clinton campaign asked Billy Shaheen to throw himself under the bus to right the ship, as their poll numbers were sinking fast.
Look, my wife is a BIG Hilary supporter. I'm obviously not. I can't talk about this at home; it makes me an anti-feminist and a woman-basher.
However, I just feel...ishy...about the whole thing. I'm not even an Obama supporter. Up until this week, I've been a Dodd guy. However, this is the first time I've felt I couldn't support Hilary if she were the nominee.
