An Old Letter

Sun Dec 16, 2007 at 08:42:14 PM PDT

With the election of 2008 approaching, it was good to remind myself how I felt after the election of 2004. So, when a friend posted a link on my small (I like it that way) blog to a Think Progress story on Billo's ongoing hypocrisy in urging his dwindling "fans" to boycott business that don't say "Merry Christmas", except Barnes & Noble (note, this is not a slam on B&N on my part) because he makes a lot of money on the books he sells there, I was reminded of some organizing I tried (unsuccessfully) to do.

Heck, I might as well try it again, below the fold.

I realize that "this is a site dedicated to electing Democrats", but isn't it also OK to defund the RW that's opposed to Democrats, here? See, I think we're all so caught up in arguing about whether Hillary or Obama would make a better President (I support Dodd, but will probably vote for Edwards in the primary because of "electability"), that we've forgotten that there's a very real, very well-organized evil out there that wants to destroy us.

So, here's the letter that I sent to my Democratic representatives after that fiasco in 2004. An excerpt:

As one of your constituents, I am writing to express my continued support for you and the Democratic Party. It is important that I communicate to you that this support is not unconditional. I will continue to have an expectation that my opinions, views, and values are represented in Congress.

And here's a link to a page I put together trying to help people maintain their confidence at a time when it seemed like all was lost, including urging them to "vote with their money".

And, last but not least, here's a page on "Economic combat" that includes the following:

The Christmas season is upon us, and no one wants to be a scrooge. You may think it's difficult to stop spending, right now. Here are some ideas for you. Don't let a guilty conscience fool you. There are "fundie phone books" that list "fundie friendly" businesses. There are "GOP phone books" that list "GOP preferred" businesses. There is nothing "mean spirited", or "angry, or "evil" about patronizing people who believe the way YOU do. It's the American way. But stop patronizing the companies that support the GOP's agenda of borrow and spend and fighting wars on credit. Their price is just too high.

Make a liberal happy. Spend your hard-earned money in his or her store, this month.

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwanza Happy Holidays to you all!
