setting up a couple of e-mail accounts.
I don't have a computer at home so I need a couple of accounts I can access from the library or wherever else I am.
Currently I have an e-mail address at work and I'd used that one to register at Daily Kos and the other blogs, etc. I'm a member of. But I'm unable to access this e-mail from the library....
and I also won't have this work e-mail address much longer. Because Thursday I was given 30 days' notice that I'm going to lose my current job. I'm leaving that position Jan. 15th.
As of now I'm trying not to worry about that because my employer is talking to another company or two where he thinks I might find a new position. So I'm hopeful things will turn out O.K. (If they don't, I'm sure I'll be diarying about it.)
However, lately I've been on a crazy schedule because currently I'm on vacation from work to use up some vacation time. So I'm only at the office once-twice a week and this means I've only been able to check my e-mail sporadically. Because of this my participation in this new NOLA Google Group I'm an owner of has been limited.
So most often I use one of the library's computers. They're O.K. for much of what I do online, but the fact that I haven't been able to get e-mail on them has been a pain.
Saturday I attempted to set up a Hotmail account--but they require an alternate e-mail address so they can notify you when they reset your password. The only e-mail address I have is the one at work, which I don't want to use.
Are there any websites, etc., where users can set up e-mail accounts without having to provide an alternate e-mail address? If there is such a website I thought I could set one up there and get that e-mail address, then set up a Hotmail account using this new address as the alternate....
Because I'd like two e-mail accounts I can access from the library--one for business and news subscriptions, the other for blog/social things.
If they all ask for an alternate e-mail address, how can I get around this? I mean, there must be ways people who don't already have an e-mail address anywhere can set up e-mail accounts.
Oh, and since my income is limited, this has to be free.
And easy to set up because I'm not tech-savvy.
I'd appreciate any links or other help you can give me. Bear with me if I don't stay with this--I'm working on a hard-news candidate diary I intend to post in the next few days.
But I will be checking back every so often because this e-mail situation has me in a quandary and I need help.
One more thing--once I have these new e-mail addresses, how easy will it be for me to change my e-mail address on Daily Kos, my NOLA Google Group, and everything else I want to continue getting e-mail from?
Thanks for all your help.
