Fahrenheit 451?

Wed Dec 19, 2007 at 09:14:15 AM PDT

Any wagers on what secret documents this office may have contained?

It appears that a fire broke out in the Eisenhower building which is used by the vice president. Have I simply become far too cynical or am I right to suspect that there may have been some incriminating documents sitting around? Is it really a stretch after what we saw in the case of the CIA interrogation videos?

The fire was centred around Vice President Dick Cheney's ceremonial office.

Mr Cheney himself was in his White House office, and was not affected by the incident, his staff said.

Just to set our terrified minds at ease, however...

...officials have ruled out a terrorist attack.

Cheney should be condemned to walking around the wilderness reciting The Constitution. Fahrenheit 451 indeed.

... that I doubt they'd bother to stage a fire just to get rid of embarrassing, incriminating, or otherwise sensitive documents. Their contempt for Congress and the rule of law is so transparently obvious that I believe they'd deliberately destroy even ordinary records subject to a subpoena just out of general principle and to say "F**k you" to the American people. These are guys who don't need a reason to be jerks. It's in their nature. Their whole attitude seems to be to dare anyone to stop them ... and it appears to be working because almost no one is willing to impeach their worthless asses.

evidence that records have been destroyed regarding torture already and the Democrats responded by writing some stern letters.

If I were Dick Cheney and had something to hide, I'd take their lack of action as a go ahead to destroy whatever other incriminating documents might be lying around, especially if my only punishment was some strongly worded letter which I could then use to paper my birdcage...

Cheney's office probably stores documents on a private, external computer system that is not anyway located in or associated with public property.
