It goes without saying this has been a terrible year. All things considered, we had a lot of hope going in after taking back Congress, only to find out we really hadn't taken it back at all save a few awesome representatives. But I digress, because this past year is not what I really want to talk about.
Despite the crimes committed by the Bush administration and it's lackeys, and enough scandals to print on a sixty-foot scroll, it seems many are complacent with letting them all walk without impeachment and pick up the pieces afterwards with a new president, or that such an endeavour would be too difficult.
Really? It's not important enough in the face of the absolute worst administration in this nation's history?
It's not important to the people who have been sucked into a pyramid-scheme economy that destroys their quality of life while underwriting the military industrial complex, insurance and pharmaceutical industries?
It's not important enough to the ghosts of Christmas past who spilled their blood to establish this nation?
It's not important enough to the millions of people in Iraq who want an invading force out of their country to stop the bloodshed?
It's not important enough for Jamie Leigh Jones and the other countless and unreported victims of rape by contractors?
It's not important enough for Nataline Sarkisyan and countless others who have died or suffered because it wasn't in the profitable interest of the companies providing her healthcare?
It's not important enough for Don Siegelman, ex-governor of Alabama being jailed on a neo-con lead witchhunt? Not enough for the US Attorneys?
What about endemic corruption at every corner of the federal government??
What about the melting icecaps and the climate crisis???
We have 380 days to impeach and convict the criminals that have raped this country to the core over the past decade. Failure to do so will set an everlasting precedent that crime and war is the norm for America. At that point, we will be ghosts to the rest of the world.
Allowing them to walk free and issue pardons will mean America and the people who created it and made what was good of it will have been a failure, for nought. Somebody needs to get the DLC on the phone and say screw worrying about the election, and put all the marbles in for impeachment. Nothing ever got done in the world without a bit of risky behavior. If they impeach, the DLC is guaranteed the election and both houses. It's too bad the leadership doesn't realize this.
I hate invoking the apocalyptic bullshit that the right has spewed forth upon this world, but this is really a time of judgment for us as a nation. I really don't want to be remembered in history as being part of a nation that let evil endure without a fight.
Hope anybody who reads this has a Merry Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Festivus!, and remembers that we need to pay heed to the ghosts of past, present and future.
