As Fred Thompson's campaign slowly sinks among the cornfields of Iowa he is making one last attempt to stay afloat by soliciting donations on his web site to pay for one last advertising blitz before the caucuses next week.
Fred says he needs to raise about $250,000 by 6PM tomorrow. So far he has raised only half that amount. Without the additional funds the blitz is likely to become a blip, and Fred's candidacy will become as viable as the subprime mortgage market.
Fred is currently on a bus tour of Iowa advertising himself as the "consistent conservative" in the race. However, the only consistency he has shown so far has been his inability to generate anything more exciting than a photo opportunity with a cardboard cutout of John Wayne. If his prospects don't improve much the next few days, Fred may be going back to Hollywood for extra work in patriotic tough guy movies.
