I know that election ponderings can get a bit...blah, blah, blah...especially right before the "primaries." Sorry. But there's a lot to be said about the damn things. In so many ways, I believe we Dem's are truly shooting at our own damn feet. Are we filled with this much self doubt? Self-loathing? Self-hatred? What the devil are we doing? 'Tis not only a flesh wound at this point. We are hemorrhaging the very democratic ideals we claim to be trumpeting!
Really?! We're concerning ourselves with freaking electibility? What could be more antithetical to the democratic principles that started this country? I’m not talking about this Founding Fathers BS that my mid-school students read in their textbooks. For most of those rich White men, democracy was defined by the depth of one’s pockets + the penis in one’s pants + the color of that penis (not "black"). I’m talking about the year 1774, when the REAL American revolution began.
This was a period where a good number of patriots collectively stood up for what was right. Massachusetts patriots, without any central authority or rallying figure, secured all political and military authority outside of Boston in response to British actions and policies of the day. They did this, because they engaged in an Evolution of thought. Unfortunately and as time wore on, the American Evolution was usurped by the American Revolution. Re-volution = to orbit or circle around a fixed point again, and again, and again, and again. In other words, in the end we traded one set of a-holes for another set of a-holes.
"Freaking sweet," as my favorite Boston Patriot, Peter Griffin, would say.
Where in the Universe's name did that sort of fervor go? When did our passion for doing the right thing evaporate from the realm of possibility? When did we become cowards? The American Evolution required people stand up and even DIE for what they believed in. Now, many of us are afraid to confront (non-physically) those who have the wrong ideas about the way the world should be. Pathetic.
This all comes from the fact I am NOT a Clinton fan. I couldn’t care less that Faux News and CNN and my neighbor, Margarita, believe she’s electable. In my opinion, Clinton will keep pushing us towards the Neo-Liberal (Now! With more Neo-Conservatism!) nightmarish path her husband started us upon. (BTW, if you're wondering my source on this, all I have to do is see what NAFTA has done to my wife's family in Mexico for proof of this). I don’t care if Clinton is ahead in the polls. I feel she’s not the right person for the job. Period.
Screw electability. We need a leader.
I don't believe she is that leader. Obama, Edwards, Kucinich...perhaps. We must ask the question, who is REALLY fighting WITH us? Will we fight WITH them?
Every Dem I’ve personally talked to (yes, we bloggers speak with real people and don’t only interact digitally, you damn fools who think we don’t) say this:
"I’d vote for Kucinich, but he won’t win...so I’m voting for XXX." For God’s sake, these people are undercutting their own logic!!! If EVERY Dem I’ve met says this, then why the hell ain’t we voting for Kucinich? Why is he not ahead in the polls?
Are we so pathetically addicted to "winning" in our culture that we’d rather root, root, root for a bunch of s*^t heads that win? ANYONE can root for the Patriots/Yankees. Why don’t I ever hear: Is team X run and staffed by good people you can feel ethically comfortable with? While that’s up to each individual to decide what is right or wrong to root for, we really shouldn’t be rooting against our own interests with someone like Clinton.
I’d rather pick a loser and go down with the ship than be associated with a bad group of people and stay afloat. I’d rather live and die for the right things than live as someone else’s well-trained dog.
Woof.
