So here we are, with Bush and his supporters at 35% or less in the polls. Yet there are no major anti war demonstrations. The Democratic party seems as disorganized as ever at the national level. Corporations are pushing for more corporate welfare, the estate tax is about to be abolished, and the main item on the presidents agenda is banning gay marriage.
Is it just me, or is there something seriously missing here. Practically speaking we are at the best position politically that we have been at in decades to make forward progress, yet my sense of the situation is that rather than making gains in 2006 towards a win back of the WH in 2008, we are , rather, slipping further into a corporate- facsist state, where the big guys have all the control and the little people are squeezed futher and further out. Why is there no leadership on the problems in Iraq, or Afganistan, no outcry against the presidents meaningless agenda while we are confronted with serious problems in this country, no voices shouting for change? What is going on? is the mass media so utterly posioned by republican control that no one can get the message out? Or are we seeing a symptom of something deeper, where we as Americans have given up caring about the future of our nation and what that future holds for us. 4 months ago I was optimistic there would be change. Now, 5.5 months from the most important mid term elections in decades, I feel an impending sense of dread and doom. am i paranoid or are we in far more serious trouble than people are willing to admit?
