Nobel Peace Prize::Virtual Torch Parade

Apologies for the brevity of this diary entry; but I would like to give some attention to the Virtual Torchlight Parade i honor of the recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007.

The citizens of Oslo will traditionally honor the recipient(s) of the Peace Prize with a torchlight parade on Oslo's main street - Karl Johans Gate.  The laureate(s) will greet the parade from the balcony of the Grand Hotel.  The parade will take place on Monday evening (local time), just after the official ceremonies are finished.

But this year you do not need to be physically present in Oslo to participate in honoring the Prize winners.
Thousands have signed up all over the world for the Virtual Parade.

Thousands have joined Aftenposten.no's online campaign to let readers show their support of environmental issues and this year's Nobel Peace Prize winners.

  I note on the side of the virtual torches the headline:  "Norway fends off more troops for Afghanistan."  

  I hope Mr. Gore and the others enjoy this evening - they deserve the glowing feeling.

•  Watching Monday's Gore & IPCC speeches

  Gore and the IPCC will actually receive their prizes, and deliver speeches, on Monday. These events will be available to watch via live webcast.  Only hitch:  it starts at 12:50 pm local time in Oslo.  Meaning, you New Yorkers can watch it comfortably with your coffee starting at 6:50 am.... You Midwesterners can watch it at 5:50 am, before you shovel your snow.... You Mountain Timers can and West Coasters will have to get up at 4:50 and 3:50 in the morning respectively!  Alaska?  2:50 am.  Hawaii... 1:50 am.  I love Time Zone Converter!
