There are people here and all over this country right now who are down-right outraged at the concept that the current administration lied, ommited facts, and/or broke laws. Then of course there is the present uproar about illegal immigration. In their usual form the republicans are trying to claim one side of the argument is all theirs and use threats and fear to divide us and possibly drag some of us over to the dark side.
The truth is that there were yays and nays echoing from both sides on the last senate bill. I also refuse to be bullied by the oh so repugnican motto of if your not with us, then you are against us. That is the way the whole support amnesty thing is being spun. Agree with your opinion or you must be one of them.
So here it is. Amnesty for all or support having laws and actually following them. I'm quite confused by people who one minute are complaining that nothing has been done about the lies and/or crimes of this administration or that their motives are financial gain and then arguing for amnesty for people who lied and knowingly broke laws to come here and make more money.
The 700 mile wall in my opinion would be a flat out waste of money, but what kind of message would amnesty really send to the world? How about someone in a place like Rwanda who has been waiting for years to make it over here. Sorry buddy we just used up all the visas on people who didn't wait. Why not sign up for school? At the end of 4 years you can get residency with this new amnesty thing. Oh you don't have enough money lying around in savings? Well you should get some rich parents who can afford to send you here like all the people we just gave visas to. Just an example but thats what message we would send to the world.
Anyway...I understand it's on a different level, but don't cheer for people lying and breaking laws and then boo-hoo about it in the next breath, post or whatever. Our current laws are pretty weak as it is. Thats how this whole situation got so out of control. But lets not be Reagan fans and just say derrrr lets hit the reset button and see if we can do better next time. And before you try to discredit me by calling me a racist, go try to get a summer job in Wildwood NJ.
Finally there is already a green card lottery which one doesn't have to leave to win and anyone who's been here for 7 years without commiting a crime of moral turpitude is eligible for cancellation of removal. What the Senate bill was trying to correct was when illegal immigrants do commit crimes here most of it never gets reported to INS because local law enforcement doesn't talk to federal. Also, when they actually do try to remove someone it turns into a years long appeals process where the process itself serves as a means to continue staying here.
