Rocky for President!

I'm talking about Rocky Anderson, the Mayor of Salt Lake City.

From Wikipedia:

Mayor Anderson has gained international renown for his Salt Lake City Green Program,[5] a comprehensive effort to improve the sustainability and reduce the environmental footprint of Salt Lake City’s municipal operations. Elements of the program, which is said to "cover everything from dog waste to nuclear waste," include initiatives to improve the efficiency of the City’s fleet and use of electricity, measures to make Salt Lake City more bicycle-friendly and pedestrian-friendly, and cogeneration plants at the City’s landfill and wastewater treatment facility that recapture methane to generate electricity.

Sounds like an amazing guy.

And he decided to protest the war when President Bush came to Salt Lake City - a courageous move, I think.

What really caught my attention was this video on YouTube.

He is so civil with those dittoheads, yet so powerful in articulating why his actions are indeed extremely patriotic.

This is the kind of midwestern Democrat that could win the presidency (I'm not talking about this election cycle, but perhaps in the future).

Plus, it just sounds awesome:

  ....but Midwestern?

  Yeah, we like him.

  Unemployment is very low in Salt Lake City; not all Rocky's doing.  He helps create jobs, albeit many of them in the suburbs with his support of the Outdoor Retailer Trade show & his stand on environmental issues.

  OK, so this may not be important to you but he also tries to retain all kinds of businesses in Salt Lake City.

  Rocky also works well with Republicans.  Most Kossacks may not appreciate that, but it's helpful around here.

  i loved it when Bush went to Salt Lake and got a "great" reception by the Mayor!!!

  A crowd of thousands cheered Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson for calling President Bush a "dishonest, war-mongering, human-rights violating president" whose time in office would "rank as the worst presidency our nation has ever had to endure."

  1. He's a lapsed Mormon.

  2. This is freakin' Utah. In 1992, Clinton came in THIRD in Utah behind Bush Sr. and Perot. Bush also received 71% OF THE VOTE in 2004! He'll never be elected to a statewide office.
