Al Franken's brief appearance on SNL this weekend made me realize how much he is missed on this show-- because they have NO IDEA how to do political satire without him.
Franken did his one-man mobile up-link unit schtick from Iraq (and he REALLY was in Iraq) and had two soldiers with him-- the first was going to say how much he loved his wife and kids but Franken messed up the feed and we couldn't hear him.
For the second- Franken was to deliver news that the soldiers wife just gave birth. To which the soldier replied "I've been here more than a year! That whore!"
The only other (non-Franken) satire of the night was a collective group of Dem-imitators complaining about Dean.
Funny: Lieberman throwing a 4-year-olds temper-tantrum: "Fine! If you don't want me the I want Bush to win! That'll show you!"
Also funny: Edwards as a very very weird guy and Clark's black sweater and yelling 10-hut!
Unfunny: Lieberman saying how Dean said Osama wasn't guilty and that this is just such good stuff and why won't you all listen to us...
Uh....Dean said no such thing.
But- its pretty obvious to me SNL has drifted really far right the last few years.
