I want us to rediscover FDR in this country. While I love JFK, I think he has overshadowed FDR, obscured FDR in the minds of many younger democrats as the epitome of Democrats.
I also want to see progressives and Democrats invent and develop frames which we can build atop classic progressive accomplishments (like FDR's).
Putting these together: I would like to see a Democratic Motto to fit the acronym "FDR".
"An America that is Free, Democratic, and Rational."
"Funky, Down, and Radical"
"Facts, Data, Reality"
I tried to fit "Religion" under the "R" but failed... so I'd like to see that. Democrats are the party of freedom of worship, and the motto doesn't have to be general like the one's I mention... it could be on a particular important topic, like religious freedom.
Lots of philosophies make lists of fundamental things... like the Ten Commandments, etc etc.
Pyrrhonist Skepticism is unique in that it views all such lists as arbitrary, but still valuable. You can have 10 facts, or 3 facts... the value comes in trying to fit your ideas into the space alotted, so pyrrhonism had many lists, with names such as "The 10 Modes", or "The 5 Modes". They were ways to apply a body of thought which naturally doesn't really fit entirely in 5 points. You learn about your own position by trying to make them fit.
So can you fit progressive ideals in three concepts, each starting with the letter "F", "D", and "R"?
The sooner we start the sooner I can leave snarky replies to conservatives that consist merely of "FDR!!" or "You forgot FDR" or "Democrats think differently on that because of FDR"... I know you got somethin'
