Truce

Over the past few months, there have been a number of diaries that, while addressing subjects that have nothing to do with meta, have ended up being meta in the comments section due to differing viewpoints of our fellow Kossacks.

I am going to try avoid "calling out" specific diarists because of the common-sense and legitimate rules of our wonderful website here, and will instead refer to the two most prominent diarists in question as PO and MD.

Most of you probably would consider me a newbie. UID a hundred and eleven thousand something. But I have been around for a while. Reading. Lurking. Busy with my own campaign and organizing Democrats. I've been around long enough to see that the distinction which has been drawn by these two is an important one.

We have two gifted essayists who are on the same side politically who have created at least a sense of division among our ranks. My point in this diary is that this division is illusory.

Illusory, you say? Yes. The illusion that has been created is that there is only one single way to fight this critical battle in which we are ALL engaged. Illusory in the sense that one person's fight is less meaningful or important or workable than another's. Illusory, because of the TRUTH that it takes all kinds, that we can and will win, and we are all in this together. We. Are. All. In. This. Together.

PO gives me fire. He gives me hope. He makes me want to get up and shout, light bonfires, block roads and meld, philosophically, with my brothers and sisters.

MD gives me structure. He gives me hope, also. He makes me realize that the system is still not broken, only parts of it are. He allows me to better convince the undecided.

We are all one here, folks. Sure, there are differences. But the very fact that we spend time (so much time) on this wonderful, powerful, inspiring, educational, and righteous forum is proof that we are all in this together. No more flame wars. No more questioning the motives of PO and MD. We have bigger fish to fry.

    I've gotten flamed for diaries lately and have been the subject of meta, rather than the subjects of the diaries, which were important.  Very disheartening.

    Just wrote another diary that I think is important (about a third way to talk to Iran). It won't get the kind of play, even though it's a call to action, that the flame diaries (i.e. I/P) will.  

    Could use more focus, overall on Kos, on the issues.

  I haven't been posting since the elections, so I lost my TU around Christmas time. I went from posting here multiple times a day to allowing days go by without even opening the KOS link in my FP's.

  After six years of waking up pissed off, it was a nice reprieve to LET. IT. GO. We all have to keep our sanity somehow.

  But now I can see that the elections barely made a difference in terms of policy change and so here I am  ready to fight the good fight once again.

  WRT division, you only feel it if you're on the inside , but from an outside observer -- which I feel I have been since November -- this place is doing fine. The system is working.

  Don't sweat it too much. ;-)

  but when I perceive an attack, I will defend myself.  Simple as that.

    these things are circular?  Someone says something, you respond, and someone else responds to you.  Back and forth, Ouroboros.  

    I sympathize with the need to defend yourself, but at what point do you end up creating new detractors who feel that they're just defending themselves from you?

    Not an attack here - just something to consider.
