In the wake of the back to back failure of the Democratic party to make gains in Washington and the resultant systematic corporate pirating of this ship of state there is angst and wonder about how and why an enlightened, activist and liberal chunk of voters who came of age in the sixties can have it all thrown back in their faces. I heard a mocking Limbaugh this morning claim that liberalism cannot survive because it has no foundation...yet we know we have a foundation, a spirit and more importantly, a heart. George Bush and his followers have no heart. Instead they have traded their hearts for a wallet, instead of pumping blood into a heart, they pump more money and oil into their wallets...
A local columnist wrote an opinion piece today surmising why the enlightened lost the last election in favor of the neocons and hawks, and though he offers no solution to the situation, in the interest of dialog I thought this article and diary important...

President Bush sends troops into Iraq over weapons of mass destruction, fails to find the weapons and wins reelection. Fueled by questionable exit polls, the media portray his win as a victory for moral America. Led by Tom DeLay, Congress takes it upon itself to legislate morality.
Baby Boomers, America's biggest generation, took to the streets in the 1960s to protest the Vietnam War, racism and sexism but remain eerily silent over Iraq and the rightward swing of this country.
